If you’re yearning for the great outdoors then this is a truly fabulous part of the country to visit, we’re nestled into the Yorkshire Wolds, in what’s become known as “Hockney country”, where our most famous living artist lives and works. We’re just outside the village of Sancton which boasts a superb, award winning pub - The Star, the perfect place to enjoy a delicious lunch or supper.

We’re blessed to have the White Rose Polo Club on our doorstep and Polo is our number one activity. The club runs a range of courses and lessons ideal for complete beginners (no riding experience needed) as well as those who want to brush up on the finer points of their technique – Can’t recommend this highly enough!

Wolds Gliding Club

If you’d like to see the Yorkshire Wolds from the air then try your hand at gliding – the Wolds Gliding Club is less than 15 minutes from the North Star. They offer lessons for a range of abilities and can even organise evening flying parties for groups.

Golf – KP Club

The KP Club is a short drive away and has an 18 hole championship course with fabulous views across the Wolds, if golf’s too strenuous for you it also has a great restaurant bar!

Allerthorpe Park – Watersports

If water sports are more your thing, then why not pop up the road to Allerthorpe Lake Park? They have 53 acres of grounds and lakes, you can go sailing, windsurfing, fishing or try your hand at paddlesports.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

Set in 35 acres of the rolling Wolds, Monckton Shooting Ground is a stunning setting for clay pigeon shooting, at over 160 feet high it boasts one of the highest towers in the country and best of all its just 10 minutes from the woodland!

Yorkshire Food Finder

This fabulous company can organise gourmet tours around this stunning region. Companies visited include Shepherds Purse Cheeses, Ampleforth Abbey cider, Great Yorkshire Brewery, Ryedale Vineyards amongst many others. Sue and Aidan have a vast body of knowledge about Yorkshire food and they make delightful companions. This is a not to be missed treat for foodies.

If this all sounds a bit too physical there are more gentile country pursuits! The Races – York or Beverley

Yorkshire does love its racing and we are incredibly well located for a trip to the races, York and Beverley both have superb racecourses and the added benefit of great towns to visit too!

Flamborough Head

You simply can’t visit Yorkshire without a trip to our wildly romantic coastline, Flamborough Head is about 30 minutes away and the dramatic chalk cliffs are the most northerly outcrop in England.
